Your editorial is correct in that motherhood is rewarding. It is also darn expensive.

A daycare space for a toddler when mum finishes her maternity leave and heads back to work will cost over $1,000 per month, if she can even find a space.

And that’s a good explanation for why couples are having fewer babies these days.
