Life on welfare: separating fact from fiction

Letter: Dianne Goldberg, Halfmoon Bay; Vancouver Sun

Where have these so-called thinkers been burying their heads? Have they not read and heard the honest stories from the schools that were featured in December issues of The Vancouver Sun?

Have they not done the arithmetic and costed out monthly rent, noodles and a cup of coffee, transit fares, a pair of socks and a winter jacket?

The numbers are clear, even for those wearing steamed-up rose-coloured glasses.

Welfare rates in British Columbia are not adequate for anyone, and we are all paying dearly for it both in the short and long term.

Changes and solutions are long overdue.
