Investing in well-being of children essential

Sharon Gregson, Trustee, Vancouver Board of Education; Vancouver Sun

The series focused on daycare is yet more proof that bad public policy and chronic underfunding with no provincial commitment to the children of working parents add up to poor quality. The current situation of high demand, sometimes desperation, for child care coupled with a low supply of services means that parents have few choices. The market system has not worked for child care – we need public funding and public delivery. With a new premier who puts families first, surely investment in child care will be first on her agenda.
