Commitments sought at interagency meeting

Health care, accommodation, child care: all the most pressing issues facing Tumbler Ridge were up for discussion at the interagency meeting held at town hall last Wednesday (February 2).

“I see a lot of problems in the future when it comes to healthcare,” said councillor Doug Beale,… “If it doesn’t improve, industry will have a hard time bringing workers in.”….

Canadian Dehua and Teck, who are looking at hiring about 800 workers between them over the next two years….

Caisley then joined the table to explain a proposal for expanding daycare space in the town. The long term plan would involve having a portable building manufactured by Greensmart, a Dawson Creek mobile home producer. It would cost up to $250,000, and the modular building could easily be expanded in the future. In the short term, commercial space could be rented for the Tumbler Ridge Children’s Centre Society (TRCCS) to use. Schembri noted the TRCCS served over 90 children in their various programs last year….
