BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair says the severance payments are outrageous and the firings were unnecessary in the first place.

“These people were hired as professionals to work in a liberal government. Why is it that the same liberal government now has to fire them all and pay them a big cheque? Most people in the civil service, there’s 30-thousand jobs there, they couldn’t find a job for a few people like this to keep working for the government?”

Sinclair says the firings were just for a “show” of change by the new Premier, at a cost of 2.4 million dollars.
