Full-day Kindergarten Benefiting Kids, Says Chairman: Vernon District hopes for more funds for added students next year

A report on full-day kindergarten within the Vernon School District is positive. Board chairman Bill Turanski says money has been forthcoming for equipment and teachers have been provided with a good deal of professional development. "The consensus seems to be this extra time will really benefit these children in year one," says Turanski. There are 286 students in full-day kindergarten this year and almost the same number (285) in alternate-day kindergarten. All will be eligible for full-time classes next year. Turanski is hopefull there will be more provincial funding for that. "It's a question mark," admits the school board chairman. "We anticipate we will get funding but we don't know what it is."….
