Tofino's public daycare numbers hit by full-day Kindergarten program

Although the announcement of Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) was good news to school districts across the province, its implementation on the West Coast is driving down numbers at Tofino's Community Children's Centre (CCC) daycare.
CCC is run through the district's parks and recreation department, ….
"If the numbers are down it impacts our monthly grant," Mole explained. "We will be making some staffing adjustments."
Mole said the district intends to work to keep all the staff together, which is comprised of three full-time workers and one part-timer.
"We're looking at one of our staff [members] spending more time on education upgrading," she said. "We're trying to keep everyone together."
Currently, the CCC has approximately 45 to 50 children enrolled with a maximum of 18 children being taken care of at one time….
However, Mole said as she looks forward to next spring's enrolment, she expects a hike because there is a bump in the age range of 2.5 and three year olds.
"It has its highs and lows," she said. "But, in the near future I see a bump in enrolment."…
