Full-day kindergarten ready to start here

Local schools will be bustling this fall as 313 five-year-old kids enter into full-day kindergarten rather than the usual half-day program.
"That's just an exciting thing," said school district acting superintendent Sherry Elwood. "Full-day kindergarten classes ... are just so cool….
And early intervention could be starting even earlier in future years -- the provincial government has begun to make noises about getting four-year-olds connected to the public school system.
"We believe it will probably be in the next year or two," said Elwood. "We've seen the signposts. It's an exciting time. There will be a learning experience for four-year-olds of some kind, all of which will be optional."
Elwood said it is not yet clear whether or not four-year-olds will actually be entering into schools, learning in other facilities or if the school district will somehow be connected with other service providers in the community….
