Despite paying rising childcare fees, some Metro Vancouver parents are having a difficult time finding before and after school care for their kids.

Westcoast Childcare Resource Centre's Executive Director Pam Best says there is only enough licenced childcare for 15-percent of the kids who need it.

That means, more parents are having to turn to un-licenced care for their children, "It may be patchwork by parents and relatives and friends and lots of caring people, but there may be some situations that maybe aren't as good for children as we would hope they would be."

This, despite fees that are rising at a rate double that of inflation. Best says on average parents pay around 400-dollars a month for before and after school care.
