What the VSB report said - and didn't say

Is it a surprise that the comptroller-general's report on the VSB came back as it did? It was yet another cynical ploy from the Gordon Campbell government that should outrage the citizenry. It served to shift the blame for poor funding of primary and secondary education away from the government, which refuses to fund even its own initiatives, such as full-day kindergarten.
This is hardly to relieve the VSB of all blame, but, instead, to point out that such underfunding is consistent with the underfunding of education at every level in this province, from early childhood through university.
Victoria wants this to be the "most literate jurisdiction" in North America. Having lived in several of the continent's "jurisdictions," I can tell you that we have a very, very long way to go. We need an independent report that assesses the true state of education funding, at all levels, in B.C.
