Parents who work should prepare for the worst. If the Vancouver school board is forced to follow the recommendations of the "special adviser," the cost of child care will undergo a dramatic increase. The recommendation is that billing for the use of public-school space change from the current long-standing policy of cost recovery to one of profit-making. The goal, according to the comptroller-general's report, is to gouge Vancouver's working parents for $1.5 million annually in profits for the board to offset underfunding from the provincial government. So, parents, get ready to write bigger cheques to add to what you already send to Victoria.
