B.C.'s child watchdog says new legislation brought in by the B.C. government will basically dismantle her office.

Children's Representative Mary-Ellen Turpel-Lafond says the law will slash her access to cabinet documents -- material she says she needs to assess how well the the top levels of government are doing in handling children's issues.

She says without access to the documents she won't be able to properly oversee the child welfare system.

Turpel-Lafond also says the law is retroactive all the way back to when she was appointed, covering some documents she already has, meaning she may not be able to complete reports she's currently working on.
