The Editor,

I just sat down to read the news at the end of my weekend and was shocked to hear that yet again taxpayers, and in particular those with children, may be hit again with the suggestion of an extended spring break….

I have just been informed by my employer for the second year in a row that there will be no pay raises, yet my monthly transit pass, my daycare, my gas bill and my hydro bill have all increased between 5 to 10%.

Last year, my husband and I paid just over $19,000 for daycare for our two children and now School District 43 thinks it should consider adding to that by having us either incur at minimum another $500 more in daycare expenses or take our hard-earned vacation at peak spring break fares so it can cut costs?

There is absolutely no way this should be decided on without public consultation; parents need to have a say, we cannot just keep passing along the costs.
