The schools that will offer full-day kindergarten in September are beginning to be identified.

… Surrey announced that 82 of its 100 elementary schools will offer the full-day program, which represents about 73 per cent of all of its kindergarten classes….

The B.C. Education Ministry is funding 21,053 full-day kindergarten spaces in 2010-11 in the first step towards full implementation. That's more than half the 35,738 children who were registered in kindergarten in 2009-10. (Just under 6,000 of this year's kindergarten students are attending full time because they are ESL, aboriginal or special needs.) The government has promised that full-day kindergarten will be available in all public schools in September 2011.

The ministry says Qualicum is the only school district that is not implementing the new full-day kindergarten program this September but is waiting until 2011.
