Full-day kindergarten will be offered to 300 students in the Cowichan Valley in September.

“This is a dream come true for me and many people in this school district,” said Trustee Ann Andersen following the announcement at the Jan. 6 board of education meeting.

“We finally get full-day kindergarten here after years and years of knowing it was needed and seeing it was so important for child development … education and success.”…

This means the district has 304 fully funded, full-day kindergarten spaces available for the fall.

“The district may offer full-day kindergarten to students above this allotment of 304, but for September 2010, the transitional year, the ministry will only fund 304 full-day (kindergarten students)...” said McMenamin….
