The Ministry of Education announced last week it will fund 462 full-time kindergarten spots in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows school district….
The school district has to let the ministry know by Jan. 22 how many of those spots they want to use.
"It's going to be a lot of work and it's going to be challenging," said Laurie Meston, the director of instruction with the school district, adding that the school district should know by then which schools will have full-day kindergarten or at least by the end of January…
The ministry has told the school district that full-day kindergarten cannot affect StrongStart programs or on-site child care programs.
….However, there are several questions still that need to be clarified, Meston said, for example, whether the 32 special education full-day kindergarten spots will be part of the 462 or whether they'll be separately funded….
