B.C. school trustees are calling on the government to delay introduction of all-day kindergarten until there is adequate and stable funding for the entire K-12 public school system.

They approved the motion today at a provincial council meeting in Vancouver….

... trustees say they don't want the program unless it is fully funded and the entire K-12 system has stable financing….

Vancouver trustee Mike Lombardi said he knows the value of full-day kindergarten but worries about the funding shortfall his district faces this year.

"For full-day K to be successful, it must be fully funded," he said in an email. "Boards cannot be expected to fund full-day K by taking funds away from other K-12 programs."

Trustees also passed motions calling for reinstatement of the facility grant and demanding that the $500 million earmarked for the BC Place retractable roof be spent on health and education instead.
