Elementary schools in Saanich might not be ready to offer all-day kindergarten next fall.
Schools superintendent John Gaiptman showed a list of schools that could support the program, in priority sequence, to the Greater Victoria board of education…, with most Saanich schools sitting mid-pack….
The schools were prioritized by available space and number of aboriginal, ESL or vulnerable students attending.
Elementary schools that offer kindergarten as French immersion will continue to do so under the all-day model….
In order to implement all-day kindergarten, some Greater Victoria schools will have to equip classrooms, with an average estimated cost of $16,000….
The education ministry has also asked school districts to consider before- and after-school care for all-day kindergarten students, to ease the burden on working parents.
