Gas prices lower costs

Consumer prices fell almost one per cent in August compared to one year ago, mainly because of lower gas prices.

Statistics Canada reports that, in the 12-month period, food prices rose four per cent, including an almost six per cent hike in the cost of fresh vegetables; 10 per cent for sugar and confectionery; and more than three per cent for restaurant meals….

The cost of child care was up more than four per cent, financial services almost eight per cent and pet food more than 10 per cent.
