The new Revelstoke schools are a month or two behind schedule, but are on track for the 2011 opening. …. There have been two additional Kindergarten rooms added to the plans to accommodate all-day Kindergarten classes starting in 2010. The Neighbourhoods of Learning facility is awaiting a sign-off from the Ministry ….

Province cuts $310,000

In a letter dated Aug. 27, Deputy Minister of Education James Gorman announced that Revelstoke, like other school districts across the province, would not be receiving their Annual Facility Grant. ….

Board Chair Alan Chell said that the cuts to the funding across the province were “of great concern,” noting that that some districts had to lay off construction staff that had been tied to the funds. He addressed the ministry’s assertion that districts could simply spend their reserves by asking, “What happens for the next year?”…
