Liberal minister negligent on childcare

To the editor:

Mary Polak's letter regarding childcare would be surprising if it wasn't the same broken-record response we heard so often from previous Liberal ministers.

Taking the arrogant best-defence-is-a-good-offence approach, Polak calls the Courier "irresponsible" for pointing out funding inadequacies.

The province has been unable to meet demand. More mothers of young children than ever before are in the paid workforce and need care options. Waitlists are too long, parent fees are too high and chronic underfunding means prevailing wages are so low that it is a struggle to keep staff.
