Bret Hernando is lacing up his inline skates this summer for child care.
Hernando is a child care worker who has decided to inline skate across the province to raise awareness of the need for a national child care system.
On May 30, he stopped at the Montessori School in Summerland. Hernando is six weeks into his trip, aimed to encourage a look at a child care system.
"Child care in Canada is really bad. We don't have a system."
Hernando pointed out there are publicly funded systems for education and healthcare in every province, but not for childcare.
"It really is a problem."
As an advocate for child care, Hernando said he does not just mean creating more day cares, but that it is necessary for parents to have a choice in funding and childcare according to what they choose and what they need.
"There should be funding for them as well."
Hernando said the response to his journey has been good, and media have covered his travels extensively….
