Longer spring break is a big problem

I am appalled that there was no voting process involving parents on the change to a two-week spring break by the Greater Victoria school district.
… As for the argument that parents take their children for two-week holidays anyway, perhaps in the more affluent communities they do, but the district is more than affluent communities. It also encompasses some of the poorest communities.
None of the families I know will be taking two-week holidays next spring. In these economic times they are more concerned with keeping their jobs and putting food on the table.
Parents are now thinking about how they will afford the extra week of daycare or even find care….
