Vision Vancouver pushes to make more information easily accessible on the Internet

Vancouver's new Web-friendly council wants the city to be more see-through and online.
A motion to be introduced today calls for the city's information-technology department to distribute as much data as possible on the Internet for free.
The hope is that citizens will be able to access a wide range of information, everything from when the garbage trucks will arrive at your house to mapping the location of the closest community garden to showing which daycare centre has the shortest waiting list.
"I'm very excited about it," said Vision Vancouver councillor Andrea Reimer, who is scheduled to move the motion committing the city to "freely share with citizens, businesses and other jurisdictions the greatest amount of data possible while respecting privacy and security concerns."….
