Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff told a standing-room-only crowd in Kamloops Thursday that he would move ahead with universal child care, better equip Canada's military and ….

Bill Sundhu wondered what the party would do to address child poverty across the country.

"One of the first things I feel would make a big impact on child poverty is a national investment in early learning and child care and day care for every Canadian family," Ignatieff said to applause.

Calling it universal day care may have been a mistake, he noted.

"It's about early learning. It's about transforming educational outcomes before kids hit primary school. This is the key social program of an incoming Liberal government."….
