Cost of full-day kindergarten probably killed the project

The cost of implementing full-day kindergarten likely led to the plan's demise during the throne speech this week, says an official with the Kamloops-Thompson School District.
Karl de Bruijn said Tuesday the province provided no explanation about why it wasn't continuing with the project.
But he estimates it will cost the school district about $2.5 million to adopt all-day kindergarten. …. District Parent Advisory Council president Paula Schmidt hopes the Education Ministry develops the concept further.
She said some parents weren't sure if the curriculum would be an extension of kindergarten as it is now, or a variation on early childhood education.
"I think the dialogue needs to continue further," said Schmidt.
School trustee Gerald Watson hopes the province will one day move ahead with the plan. He said all-day kindergarten would give children a head start on public education….
