As we move into an economic downturn to rival that of the Great Depression of 1929, the Women’s Contract Society continues to move ahead with determination to further the goals of equal rights and opportunities in society for women, but also men….

Willsie said the society had to learn to live with the significantly downsized Child Care Resource and Referral program.

Lack of affordable, stable and quality child care continues to be a significant barrier for women attending school and in the workforce, she said…..

She said the primary focus of their work last year was in addressing issues of affordable, quality child care; low wages in the child care sector; inadequate affordable and appropriate housing; and violence against women.

Willsie also explained how the women’s centre board makes decisions by consensus and how that process works….

“The Women’s Contact Society holds a strong position in our community and I anticipate the society will continue to bring a strong feminism influence to community affairs in the coming year,” Willsie says.
