Last Thursday the Best Western hosted the NDP All Candidates Forum in Nelson to help delegates pick the best person to represent the party in the race for MLA.

Bev LaPointe, Michelle Mungall, Kim Adamson and Rhonda Barter were there to shed some light on their opinions and key issues….

During the forum the issues of affordable housing, independent power projects (IPP’s), employment, health care and child care were all discussed….

Adamson was next, stating that although she had been happily dubbed the child-care advocate, her concerns and experience are much more diverse.

“I’ve managed B.C. government funded programs for 16 years so I know how they could be improved,” she said.

She said her main issues will focus on climate change, affordable housing and child care for young families.

“It’s not what I think the issues are, it’s what you think the issues are because I’ve been hired to work for you,” said Adamson.

… The questions came next, with jobs being the first focus….

Adamson said that child care tied into the work environment, since now both members of the family need to be working to own a house, something which is hard when there is no one to look after children.

Health care was the next topic of discussion, starting with talk of home support services…. Homelessness and affordable housing were discussed as well…. The candidate … will be decided in Creston on February 7.
