Macdonald says he represents local issues in Victoria

Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald (NDP) is seeking re-election in the May 12 provincial election. He was acclaimed as the NDP candidate on Dec. 6, 2008 by the riding constituency association.
….He points to his record as a MLA who represents local issues in Victoria. “The issues that were important to me were to make sure that we had an MLA that provided strong and effective representation. …
“In education, you had in this riding, eight schools closed.” he says, adding that as a principal he felt it was short-sighted and hit rural communities disproportionately. …
He feels the that child care will also be a major issue, saying his government will bring forward a child care plan that will be based around affordability and quality.
… He characterizes B.C.’s child poverty rates as offensive, noting we’ve had the highest levels in the country for five years. “We see unacceptable levels of poverty even here in Revelstoke and that’s something clearly that you see the community trying to deal with and the provincial government needs to do its part in addressing that issue,” saying its something he’s pushed for….
