With initiatives around everything from regional growth, affordable housing and childcare, Social Planning Cowichan covers a lot of ground.

That's why it's checking in with the community to make sure it's on the right track.

"Social Planning Cowichan is intended to be responsive to community needs, so we're doing a check," said past-chair Candace Spilsbury. "Do you have any suggestions about the projects we're involved in, and do you have any ideas about other community issues we should be addressing?"…

"We need the community to be involved with us, and we often have forums or surveys, but sometimes those communication tools don't access everybody in the community who has ideas," added Spilsbury. "So this is just another way of trying to be sure that the Cowichan region understands that they're fully invited to work with us."

Initiatives:

- Child care: Social Planning Cowichan reports there are enough child care spaces to serve just 48 per cent of the estimated 4,862 children under 12 years old who require them. And for the 1,047 children under three years old who need child care, there are just 165 licenced spaces….

Status of the Community Report: Social Planning Cowichan has assessed the status of Cowichan's health, education and housing. The report can be found on SPC's website.
