Committed to quality care
The Whistler Question
December 4, 2008

Editor’s note: The following open message was sent to Whistler Child Care Society on behalf of the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of B.C.

On this sad day, the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC's stands with the children, families, staff and employers at Spring Creek Day Care. They are unfairly paying the price for a province-wide child care crisis that is not of their making. Rather, it is years of government funding cuts, neglect and undervaluing of the work of early childhood that created this crisis. We know that Whistler Children's Centre has done everything it can to find a solution so that it can keep delivering this essential service to the community. We applaud them for their efforts, but their experience shows once again that no matter how hard they try, no one program or service can solve the problem alone. That is why, today, the Coalition of Child Care Advocates reaffirms our commitment to work for a publicly funded child care system that makes quality, affordable child care available to all families AND provides early childhood educators with the wages and respect they deserve.
