The District of North Vancouver's childcare policy should focus on developing childcare hubs along with other quality care services, according to a report presented to council Oct. 27.
The draft report, which was presented at an informal workshop, recommended a new vision statement as well as a changed zoning bylaw section to make it easier to spread childcare throughout the area. The current policy was adopted in 1994.
Childcare hubs are defined as "the co-location of two or more family-strengthening or early childhood development services along with a childcare service," said the report.
The proposed changes wouldn't affect the budget, which gave … $45,000 to childcare grants this year.
Coun. Lisa Muri said she would like to find out how all-day kindergarten in the district would affect childcare….
Coun. Alan Nixon proposed a letter be written to the Ministry of Education expressing concern about the effect of all-day kindergarten in the district.
