The vast majority of Canadians want the federal and provincial governments to lead a war on poverty, including raising their minimum wages and creating more low-cost child care spaces, according to survey results being released today by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. And the threat of recession should not deter governments from acting to eradicate poverty but is all the more reason for trying to do so, according to findings of the survey conducted by pollster Environics Research for the Ottawa-based think-tank. "The majority of Canadians believe Canada should try to distinguish itself in the world as a country where no one lives in poverty," the analysis of the survey results stated.
