Parents desperate for childcare provision in Fernie will not have much longer to wait, according to the British Columbia government.
Minister and East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett has promised the Fernie Childcare Society that the Ministry of Education will not take much longer pushing through the approval of the sale of the Max Turyk building for use by the society.
It took about a year of negotiations for School District No. 5 to accept an offer of $800,000 to buy the old Max Turyk School building from the City of Fernie. Fernie Childcare Society are now waiting for approval from the Ministry of Education before they can move in.
…. "We just hope the Ministry moves quickly," said Ronan MacCon, chair of the Fernie Childcare Society. "We desperately need these childcare spaces and do not want anything to happen to prevent the sale happening while waiting for approval from them."
