… Layton also addressed concerns about the lack of child care services in Canada and made a commitment that if he is elected prime minister, a National Child Care Act will be one of the first issues to be addressed. “Child care is so important to families, and yet it’s unaffordable if it’s even available,” Layton said. “We should create child care for every child and every family that needs it and wants it.” Layton said the NDP will bring child care to Canada the same way Prime Minister Tommy Douglas brought Medicare to Canada. “In fact, we’ve already written the law … We’ve put it into the House of Commons and it’s gone through every single stage,” Layton said. “It’s sitting there waiting for the final vote. “There’s only one thing that’s stopping that bill from passing: Stephen Harper and his government.”….
