UBC advised to mind its manners; President tells board the school should work harder to increase funding and 'say thank you as often as possible'

Please and thank you should figure more prominently in UBC's official vocabulary this year.
… In speaking about his goals for the 2008-09 academic year, Toope also told governors that an effort must be made to improve the university experience for more students.
The university does not score as highly on student satisfaction surveys as officials would like, Toope said.
"A lot of our students and alumni have not felt as engaged as we would wish," he said.
Other goals for the coming year and into the future, Toope said, include:
-- Expanding university housing at the Vancouver campus so 35 per cent of students live on campus.
-- Boosting day-care spaces, which are "essential" to attracting graduate students and faculty….
