Layton blasts carbon tax: 'got to move much faster'

….Layton, local NDP contender Michael Crawford and a mobile production crew delivered a tightly produced, town-hall-style rally in the university's Independent Centre.
"It is an important election and, as I introduce most of my speeches these days, I'm Jack Layton and I'm running to be your next prime minister," the Toronto MP said to cheers and applause from an audience of about 400 people….
Audience questions followed, moderated by TRU faculty association president Tom Friedman: A mill worker who lost his job when the Weyerhaeuser mill closed in May; a young mother, baby in arms, wondered about child care…. Layton promised to tackle their issues with a broad array of policies if he were to form an NDP government. … Universal child care legislation is only one vote away, he said.
"There is only one thing stopping this bill from happening, one thing: Stephen Harper and his government. If we were permitted to come to a third reading it would pass in the House of Commons."….
