…FOCUS ON CHILD CARE
Burnaby's NDP candidates say their party has the answer to Canada's child-care question.
This week, NDP leader Jack Layton unveiled a child-care plan that includes $1.45 billion in the first year and an initial 150,000 child-care spaces.
Peter Julian, NDP candidate for Burnaby-New Westminster, says Canadians are feeling "betrayed" by the Conservatives' handling of child-care.
"Many of the families I have spoken to have had to postpone plans for employment or have been forced to give up their careers because they can't find affordable child care for their children," Julian said in a news release.
"This is one of region's biggest issues," Bill Siksay, NDP candidate for Burnaby-Douglas, added.
