… The Liberals' "social justice" agenda -- the first of three policy statements being rolled out as a made-in-B.C. platform -- includes:
- Renewal of the federal licence of the Insite safe injection facility.
- The creation of new daycare spots.
- An aboriginal policy that would respect the principles of the Kelowna Accord, reached by aboriginal leaders, provincial governments and the federal government under former Liberal prime minister Paul Martin.
"Progressive voters understand that it was under Liberal governments that important initiatives like the Kelowna Accord and Insite were accomplished," Hassen said.
… incumbent MP Dawn Black, Hassen's NDP opponent in New Westminster-Coquitlam, said the Liberals' commitment to daycare is overstated.
"I ran in 1993 when the Liberals came out with their Red Book, which guaranteed new daycare spaces," Black said. "And in all their years in power, from 1993 to 2005, they created nothing in terms of a national child care policy.
"So I'm really cynical when I hear the Liberals talk about child care."….
