The B.C. Legislature will not sit this fall, according to B.C. Liberal house leader Mike de Jong, who says there is other business to take care of. But the provincial NDP leader calls it 'hiding from the public'.

According to de Jong, the decision to not recall the house for the fall session will give MLAs the chance to spend more time in their ridings. He says there is no need for an additional session to deal with any extraordinary legislation. Those were the same reasons given two years ago when the Liberals also cancelled a fall sitting.

…. This cancellation means the legislature will only have been in session for 11 out of 52 weeks this year. B.C. voters go to the polls next May 12th.
