More cash urged for day care: Labour Congress seeks to improve B.C.'s failing grade

About 175 people rallied at the B.C. Legislature in Victoria yesterday for more public funding for day care.
The rally was organized by the Canadian Labour Congress, which released a "report card" that gave a "D-minus" to B.C. for providing funds for day care, the worst in Canada.
"The B.C. government just isn't investing in child care," said NDP MLA Claire Trevena.
The report said full-time fees for three- to five-year-olds in B.C. averaged $550 a month in 2006, up from $494 a month in 2001.… The report said 75 per cent of women work and there are regulated day care spaces for 14 per cent of children. …
