District gets daycare pact
Society assumes role of operating facility

Powell River Educational Services Society will provide daycare services in School District 47.

At the Tuesday, May 20 board of education meeting, trustees approved the contract with the society.

Jay Yule, superintendent of schools, said Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society (PRCYFSS) had previously operated the daycare.

"The last few years youth and family services has run it, but we have had to cover a deficit," he said. "With the contract we will enter into with Powell River Educational Services Society, the board will not be liable for the deficit. The non-profit [society] is willing to take that risk."…
