Political grandstanding decision on child care

Considering Vancouver has a third of all new child care spaces created in the entire province over the past eight years and considering that the standard of quality of daycare in Vancouver was cited by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development as some of the best in Canada, one might wonder why the NPA on city council wanted to do away with their own staff report that said we should uphold the current daycare design guidelines and assist retro-fits on a case-by-case basis if the high quality standards cannot be met.

One would think Kim Capri and Sam Sullivan were experienced child care operators or even child care advocates the way they so casually decided that they know best about health and regulations for the kids of Vancouver. But no -- theirs was a political, grandstanding decision. Pure and simple.
