The provincial government handed over nearly $230,000 to three local daycare centres last week to help upgrade facilities and create 67 new preschool spaces.
…. But Ruth Beardsley, senior manager at Child Care Options Resource and Referral Services, said Monday’s announcement will not do much to lessen the need.
“We’re very under-served for the number of children we have in the Surrey, Delta, White Rock area,” she said.
There are 80,000 children under the age of 14, and only a small percentage have regular, licensed care.
Surrey has about 5,300 licensed childcare spaces.
