VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Parents in Richmond have been in line for days waiting to register their children for daycare. They want to know why they have to endure such an ordeal for a service they see as a necessity.

This is what it takes to get daycare space these days. "We're actually assured a kindercare space because we were in line on Tuesday night." Today is Friday.

This Mom and her partner have been balancing family, two children, work and a 24 hour a day vigil outside of a community centre since early in the week.

"I've been taking the night shift, and sleeping [at home] all day. My partner, fortunately, is on holidays so he's taking the full day shift and with the kids at night."

And they're lucky, as they have daycare space for both kids. Dozens of other parents have to make other arrangements this year. Parents like the program because their children are taken to and from school making scheduling easier for everyone.

All of the people in line in Richmond are calling on all levels of government to address this urgent issue.
