VICTORIA – Both young children and adults will benefit from two new educational initiatives worth more than $230,000, announced Claude Richmond, Minister of Employment and Income Assistance.

“We know that getting a good education enables people to have more options and opportunities. That’s why our Premier calls education the key to our future,” said Richmond. “These two initiatives will encourage even more British Columbians to access the excellent educational programming available to prepare children to start their formal education or assist adults who need to finish theirs.”

The Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance will spend up to $150,000 to provide bus passes for three months to approximately 700 families with preschool-aged children to attend their local StrongStart BC early learning centre.

“Where a person ends up at the finish line often depends on how things went at the starting line,” said Richmond. “So we want to encourage families to help their children get the best start possible in the school system.” ….
