VANCOUVER - Today is International Women's Day, a day for women to support each other around the world.

Women's Day committee member Bev Meslo says she's concerned by a new report from the Canadian Labour Congress that says women are still getting paid less than men, regardless of talent, education or experience.

But she says violence against women is still a huge issue.

She feels little is being done about it and there is a huge lack of funding for women's services in BC.

"They have quit funding women's centres, an amazing number of women's centres have had to close in this province. They have quit funding organizations that advocate on behalf of women in this province. They have quit funding civil legal matters for women in this province," says Meslo.

She says there is a long way to go towards gender equality.
