Budget debate ended by closure

VICTORIA/CKNW(AM980) - The Campbell Government used closure to end debate on its motion to reduce detailed debate of its Budget Thursday.

The NDP fought the move for two days in the Legislature, but the final vote was 38-20 in favour of the Liberals.

The NDP says it will lose more than 60 hours of Budget debating time this spring, but the Liberals say they're trying to make more time to debate legislation instead of the Budget.
