It's an injustice to deny children with learning disabilities equal educational opportunities

The B.C. Supreme Court decision is a profound disappointment to all students who need additional support to achieve their education goals. Since 1991 when the government established the policy to include students with special needs into mainstream classrooms, the funding to support them has steadily declined. Today the situation is at a crisis point.
Had the court upheld the decision of the Human Rights Tribunal, the education ministry and boards of education would have been compelled to take a serious look at how they are supporting students who have special and additional needs. The Langley Special Needs Inquiry has called upon the ministry to provide additional funding for students with special needs in all districts….
The plight of students with special needs in our public schools has become a social injustice.
