….[Mayor] Lake was also disappointed there was nothing in the budget for a proper child-care program, calling the Conservative government's strategy a "failure" and noting there have been no new child-care spaces created in Kamloops.

And when it comes to the economy and a labour shortage, Lake believes childcare is an important part of the equation.

"Many people can't into the workforce because they can't find adequate childcare. It's something they still need to address."
